abstract = "The Brazilian Cerrado focuses the world attention, both for its
great biological diversity and for the agricultural expansion,
which has led to changes in land use and land cover. These changes
have potential to affect ecosystems and economic sectors, as well
as affect water and energy balance, directly impacting on the
evapotranspiration (ET). This work aims to evaluate the spatial
and temporal behavior of ET in different land covers of the
Brazilian Cerrado, as well as its correlation with precipitation
and NDVI, using TRMM and MODIS data. ET presents higher values is
land covers with higher amount of biomass on the surface, such as
forests, which present higher ET loss considering the entire ET
time series, while the agricultural areas, which does not present
green cover during most of the year, showed lower ET rates.
According to the t student test there is a linear correlation
between ET and precipitation and between ET and NDVI for all the
land cover classes. ET was directly related to NDVI, especially
for agriculture classes (Rē = 0.86) and agriculture / vegetation
mosaic (Rē = 0.83). The relationship between ET and precipitation
was more consistent for the mosaic classes of agriculture /
vegetation (Rē = 0.65) and woody savanna (Rē = 0.63), while the
other land cover classes presented similar results.",
